![]() Born on the 29th May, 1976 in Cardiff. (No sheep jokes please). Left school in '92 with 2 GCSEs C Grades! (Science interested me), started my first computer course (the school didn't have any IT courses!) and in '95 started at UCE in Birmingham on a Computer Science degree course. The 2nd editor, this time written for Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun indirectly lead to me failing the 2nd year of the degree course! However, it wasn't all bad as a job offer from a family relation lead to leaving university and getting on the first rung of the employment ladder. Looking back, I don't regret being distracted by editors, I gained a lot of experience programming them and in fact they lead me to get my 2nd job after uni, working in Birmingham as a Delphi programmer. It also had a strange effect on me, something I didn't expect. As I was around in the online Command and Conquer community, I got to see the reactions and enjoyments people had from using the editor - that to me was an important and surprising effect. To think that people downloaded the program and had enjoyment from using it put a smile on my face and made it all worth while! In 2001, I was in the market for an MGF. So I did some research on the internet, found a few MGF sites, a few MG sites but nothing that really catered for MG & Rover cars. I've always had an interest in MG & Rovers from an early age (I blame my dad as he mainly had Austin Rovers back then!). Taking the experience I'd had from the Command and Conquer community, I started up www.mg-rover.org (after a call to Longbridge's PR department to make sure they wouldn't mind - they didn't). Primarily just a news site, it really took off with the addition of a forum on the site. To date, its the largest MG and Rover enthusiasts site on the Internet, with over 21,000 members. Then my life changed completely! In January 2002 I moved out from my Dad's house and bought a house of my own. Roger moved in as a lodger to help me pay the mortgage! (Yes, Roger the Lodger!!) Anyway, a few months later, I spot an advert on a dating website for an interesting sounding girl. A few weeks later we went out on a date - to see the film 'The One' (quite appropriate, looking back!) and my life was about to be turned upside down, shaken about a bit! Kerrie moved in that July. I left my full time work in August 2002 to concentrate on trying to get www.mg-rover.org going as a commercial enterprise, with sponsorship from the dealer network. It was through this that I met Mark Edgecombe, he ran an MG dealership down in Devon. I had written a used car database site (similar in premise to Auto Trader's site) for use on the MG-Rover.org website. I showed this to Mark, he was so impressed he asked me to do him a website, with this used car database! UK Websystems was born. In April 2004, I took control of the company from Mark due to restructuring at the Dealership, and since then its gone from strength to strength.
Born on the 31st January, 1981 in Barnsley. I left school in Bartley Green in 1997 with 11 GCSEs & 4 City and Guilds. During school I started contemporary dance, putting on shows, including the most embarrassing moment, where I had to dance to a Peter Andre song!! Upon leaving school I carried on with Dance and started with the Reflex dance company and then straight afterwards, started with the Birmingham Youth Dance Company, both based at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Whilst at the Hippodrome, I performed in a performance on the stage - 'Arthur', a contemporary ballet and performed other dances within the Dance Company. Sadly dancing these days is restricted to watching Strictly Come Dancing on TV thanks to a knee injury :( After leaving school I didn't really know what I wanted to do, so I took a job as a hairdressing junior. I can't cut hair, but I can colour hair!! (Don't I know it - Steve). That didn't last long, I left to take a job as a receptionist in a legal firm in Birmingham City Centre. On the 10th of August, 1998 I started an apprenticeship at Pilkington Aerospace in Kings Norton. (Spookily, the same site Steve's dad worked at for many years, up to 1988). At the same time I started my first of many college courses, City & Guilds in Glass Manufacturing, NVQ II & III in Business Administration, BTEC National in Business & Finance, RSA 1 & 2 in Text and Word Processing and Certificate & Diploma in Administrative Management, where I went to London to receive my Diploma. (The picture of me on the right is taken at this event). One of my other hobbies are Art & Design. In 2004 I completed my A Level in Art & Design, being awarded an A grade. My tutor was that impressed with my work, one of my coursework pieces is hanging up in his house! I've also exhibited my work at a few exhibitions and have sold a few pieces. At the moment I mainly paint for pleasure as opposed to for profit. Pilkington Aerospace was taken over by GKN in 2002 and since starting as an apprentice I've worked as a Sales and Marketing Administrator, mainly in customer support. In 2004 I moved from Sales and Marketing over to a new position in Group Procurement as a Purchasing Assistant. I am also involved with the Environmental, Safety and First Aid committees. I'm currently having a break between courses! Oh, lastly I passed my Driving Test (first time) on the 28th July 2004. (Much to the amazement of my colleagues!!) |
